Welcome everyone! I am so excited that the big day is almost here. We’ll have some fun tomorrow night watching America elect a President and all sorts of other important local races. I am looking forward to a great night with all of you!

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

This should be fun! I already have my laptop charger by my recliner so I can sit back and watch the craziness.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Nice! It’s going to get wacky! Interesting feedback here in Denver so far. I have not met one person who voted for or plans to vote for Romney here, and I’m working with bankers!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

I need to remind Meghan to bring her laptop so we can sit next to each other and participate. LOL

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    No doubt!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Current Iowa Electronic Markets 2012 U.S. Presidential Election Markets Quotes:

    Vote Share – Obama 50.7%, Romney 48.3%

    Winner-Take-All – Obama 76.6%, Romney 22.8%

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Everyone, you still need to get out and vote tomorrow if you haven’t already. Vote as if your future depends on it because it does.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.boevingloh Brian Boevingloh

Historically, how good of a predictor has this been?

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

It’s been very, very good. It’s a real-money market. People tell the truth and use their heads when real money is on the line.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.boevingloh Brian Boevingloh

I know how I’m voting tomorrow on everything except for Prop B. I almost universally support taxes that go to education, but I have a problem with any kind of “sin tax”. I don’t think it’s right for a majority (in this case non-smokers) to impose a tax on a minority (in this case smokers), especially when the most of the money will go to something completely unrelated to the “sin” in question.

I think about the fact that Missouri has the lowest cigarette tax in the Country, but then I think about how, even if THIS money goes to education, the MO legislature will probably just take an equal amount of money from another source OUT of the education budget and there wont be any real increase in education funding anyway.

I’m really afraid that I’m going to be standing there in the voting booth tomorrow still not knowing how to vote, and I’ll totally choke and vote for Buchanan or something.

Anyone have a good argument for or against Prop B to help me make up my mind?

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

That was the one I struggled with as well. The rest were straight forward in my mind.

I don’t have a good argument for or against, but I do feel that some will stop smoking based on the increased taxes. Not a lot, but some. For those that don’t, they’ll provide more revenue for the state which will hopefully go where they promise it will go.

Of course, I have no trust whatsoever in the Missouri legislature. It’s awful.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

I would say that generally taxes on unhealthy items help deter people of lower socio-economic status (who are statistically shown to have higher rates of tobacco) from using the product. Lower socio-economic status is linked to lower education and possibly not FULLY understanding the ramifications (health, cost, healthcare cost, addiction) of using tobacco. You could also look at it from the standpoint of the fact that tobacco is something that conclusively and almost certainly will give you cancer… and considering that a lower socio-economic status puts you at a higher risk of using the cancer sticks while statistically having a lower rate of access to health care… there is a higher likelihood that people who are smoking are going to be using public healthcare to care for the cancer caused by tobacco. So consider it a down payment on the money they will be eventually taking from the system.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.boevingloh Brian Boevingloh

When I consider the fact that people of lower socioeconomic status are more likely to smoke, to me it highlights the fact that this is going to be a regressive tax that disproportionately impacts people that can least afford it.

Maybe the answer will come to me in my sleep.

  • http://twitter.com/carlivar carlivar

How are they voting on legalizing weed? Looking good in Washington state.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

So what’s everyones favorite news sources for the evening? I’m sure i’ll be fixed on MSNBC and CNN and potentially switching over to Fox News to also check out their spin.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I’ll be watching MSNBC for the most part for TV. On the web, I’ll keep an eye on the New York Times and all of my Twitter people.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I heard some interesting things on this at the office. General opinion was that the drug war has failed, and the state may as well bring in some tax income from sales and corporate income taxes.

  • http://twitter.com/carlivar carlivar

It’s absolutely a regressive tax. People don’t just smoke less because cigarettes are more expensive. They are addicts — they make sacrifices elsewhere to pay for their nicotine habit. If the tax money went to programs to help people stop smoking, that might make more sense, but to my knowledge it does not. This would be similar to the focus on drug treatment programs in countries like Portugal that have successfully legalized drugs. Since that’s what cigarettes are, a legalized drug.

  • http://twitter.com/carlivar carlivar

Does the cigarette tax money really go to education? That’s insane.

By that logic everyone in Missouri should smoke two packs a day to help the schools.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

I’ve got ABC News on the web & with Virginia looking good, I am not going to leave the site because of superstition

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

The tax money raised by the law is supposed to fund an education fund.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    Stay on there man!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

    I’m watching MSNBC b/c I enjoy Rachel.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

It angers me to no end that the “white vote” is even a topic. How is it even possible, people?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

I need an electoral map to show me what the expected outcome is so I can keep up with the results and whether they are positive or negative.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    Rachel’s awesome!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

How the hell is Morurdock neck-in-neck in IN after making the 2nd rape comment? Are the people on drugs in that state? Do they not believe that women are equal in IN? Next thing you’ll tell me is Todd Akon is getting elected!!!!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I’m working on it! Think I might have found something.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.boevingloh Brian Boevingloh

CNN for me. Nobody does overblown election coverage like CNN. 3D holograms, a virtual congress, and of course AC and the Wolf. Plus they try real hard to maintain the appearance of being non-partisan, so you can get the spin from both sides in 1 place. It seems this year that they have even hijacked the Empire State building to be used as possibly the most gaudy vote tabulator in history.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Great question, Kyle! I have the same question about what is happening in Missouri. Someone as crazy as Todd Akin should be nowhere near having a chance to be a member of any political body. I just don’t get it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

Very important question: Beer or wine???

  • Terrence

    Neither. Whiskey!

  • Terrence

    What’s up, political people?

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

The Lazy Revolution is in the house!!!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I went with a pretty hard core IPA. I may be sleeping after a few of these.

  • Terrence

I’m watching Rachael, too. I’m just not in the mood to be angered by Republicans.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

What can you last longer on?

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    Haha! Great question!

  • Terrence

I’ll be set up for reelz very soon. Just waiting for the Mrs. To get home.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Me neither. The manager of this place always has Fox News on in the lobby. I may run over and grab a couple beers, but I’m not staying.

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.boevingloh Brian Boevingloh
  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    Sweet!

  • Terrence

    82-64 Romney Anyone feel nervous?

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

    Not by a long shot.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

It’s way too early to start freaking out about anything.

  • Terrence

That is great news! We could balance the budget by making weed legal.

  • Terrence

Oh I know. Plus, the intricate targeting that the Obama campaign has done may prove to be the difference. He wins Florida and Ohio? It could happen!

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

I’m very nervous. Just in general.

  • Terrence

Lost Alabama! Who could have known?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

    Both and neither.

  • Terrence

Obama winning Florida with 50% in! Woo-hoo!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Surprise! Will he win any of the Confederate states besides maybe Virginia and Florida?

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    So far, so good!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Looks like CBS is giving New Jersey to Obama!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

Here comes an Ohio victory to go along with your Florida victory, Terry!

  • http://www.facebook.com/amy.g.miller.7 Amy Garrett Miller

It’s wine for me. But I’ll find it hard to make a drinking game out of that. Ewww.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

The people of IN are starting to come around, but we need to see landslide type numbers in both races to show that the people don’t stand for stupidity

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Oh man! You could end up seeing quadruple after downing a few bottles of wine!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

The Mayor of the Residence Inn is knocking on wood right now.

Yes, I’m hoping the two dummies from Missouri and Indiana are sent home.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

Someone help Eric Cantor – he is having a stroke on national tv because he is speaking out of both sides of his mouth!!!! Nope, it is just the way that he speaks his bullshit to support the rich and John Boehner

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Oh, don’t mistake his deference to Boehner. He wants that job bad!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms
  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Okay, the geek in me has to ask this: What do you guys think about the HTML5 header on this page? Animation without Flash. Fun stuff!

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

    I like it.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Nice! All done with Hype on a Mac.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Some interesting things going on in Virginia. Sounds like they have extended voting hours: https://twitter.com/NorahODonnell/status/265994795309215744

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

Yeah, I’m sleepy enough that I’m going ride this one out sober.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    Oh, that’s just silly.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Looks like Kyle did his job in Michigan!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

Michigan has the Blue Moon shining over it tonight! That was a waste of $22 million over the last few weeks here

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

And by beer, I mean free beer for the Mayor.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Donnell-Baker-Probst/591407767 Donnell Baker Probst

  • http://www.facebook.com/brian.boevingloh Brian Boevingloh

NVM, just saw tweets come through. NBC and CBS called it!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I think there is too much competition with Facebook.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

There is only one reason that I didn’t defriend this person on FB, which is to watch as he loses his mind as Obama takes down “his boy”. BTW, he believes that he will get a better job than driving a parts delivery truck if Mittens got elected….talk about being brainwashed
This, along with Joe Walsh losing, is happiness to me!!!!

    Ron Olszowka
I can’t believe how many stupid people that there are in this country. Romney and republicans should have massive victories across the board. It sickens me that so many people are dragging us towards communism and I don’t want to go. This group of fools on the left eventually will cause a bloody civil war here. I will never go peacefully into the night. I hate all of you liberals. I really do. Every one of you. I hate you.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

I dunno. I started drinking Fruity Loops. I’ve been pretty much staying off of Facebook. But then again, I’m also watching the Bulls game.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Wow, Ron is an incredible moron. Ron Olszowka. Big moron.

    Yes!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I wonder if Google with pick this up better if I write Ron Olszowka again.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

The craziest thing about the whole liberal tag right now is that in many cases, it’s actually moderate. The right is so far right that many Democrats are actually centrists… or at least that’s how it seems to me.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

    Yeah buddy!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

He drank the Kool-Aid, showed how racist he really is, illustrated that he can’t think for himself and needs someone else to tell him what to think and truly believes that Obama wants to punish all the white people

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    That is absolutely correct.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

    Bulls win!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

I just really can’t believe he would have posted anything like that on Facebook. It’s kind of offensive that he hates me.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

    Go Bulls!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/kyle.kriewaldt Kyle Kriewaldt

My new favorite CNN contributor (and she is a Republican) is Margaret Hoover – not because she is gorgeous, but also because she give the Democrats credit for spending $90 million less and kicking the Republican’s ass in the presidential campaign. If you google her, you’ll understand why I’m glued to CNN

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Very nice! I’m still a bit partial to Norah O’Donnell.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

This is moving much too slowly for my taste. Let’s get some action here!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Ha! Here’s some action. Minnesota to Obama!!!

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

Wow, so now Akin says that God creates the laws. Dummy.

  • http://probstpost.com Probst

I know this has nothing to do with politics but I really want to muss his hair.

  • http://blog.timprobst.com/ Probstisms

From a certain point of view, this is fine, but he was referring to actual governmental laws.

I think you’re correct….if you are an independant, you are viewed as being indecisive because you don’t live on the left completely or on the right completely. There were so many people complaining on the Michigan conservative radio station, which my co-worker listens to religously, about how the independants should not be allowed to vote because they aren’t educated. I argued they are MORE educated than many voters because they have actually studied the issues and made their decisions off all the information; not just drinking the Kool-Aid
